It's Easy To Invent a Life

Image
Today I recited It's Easy To Invent a Life, and here is my poster

Prompt: As the first semester comes to an end, take time to reflect on your learning and growth in this course. In a well-developed response, explain what you enjoyed most about the class, identify the project or assignment you found most engaging, and discuss which aspect of the course you connected with the most (such as poetry, fiction, writing, or discussion). Finally, reflect on one area where you feel you need additional support or improvement as we move into the spring semester.

I think that the creative writing was my favorite portion of what we worked on, specifically the origin myth assignment. I found myself getting lost in the world-building. The area that I feel like I struggle with is poem comprehension; it just sounds like mostly nonsense to me. Summary: We presented our poems, and I predict I will not do very well. Reflection: I didn't like this poem or working on poems this year very much and I want to draw more.

Many holidays center around traditions. Describe one tradition that is important to you or your family and explain why it still matters (or why it no longer does).

Prompt: My tradition for the holidays is that my family gets drunk and argues about political garbage for 2 hours until we all go to bed angry. Summary: We had a work day due to low attendance and worked on final blogs. Reflection: The events today have left me shaken, but I wasn't very scared or upset.

Prompt: How have the holidays changed as you have grown older? Compare your experiences of the holidays during childhood with how you experience them now, focusing on shifts in perspective, responsibilities, or emotional meaning.

As I have grown up, I find Christmas to be significantly more stressful. Finding presents and trying to budget has become something I dread. But the presents and the festivities make it worth it at the end of the day. Summary: We reviewed vocabulary and the assignment.  Reflection: I don't enjoy vocabulary, and I didn't want the stress of finals week.

Prompt: Write about something that you can't stop thinking about.

Prompt: I can't stop thinking about my family life. I have been having to make some very large decisions in my interest, but it might go against my family. It is important to choose my interests over the petty ones of my family and try to find my own happiness.  Summary: We worked on what our future classes in the library. Reflection: I enjoyed getting work done for other classes while in the library.

Cultural Mask

Reflection: I thought Bobby's mask was the best, and I enjoyed presenting my interests to the class. Summary: We went over the presentation in class.

Prompt: Write about the best gift you have received.

Prompt: I don't think I've ever gotten a present from someone who wasn't a family member until last year. He wasn't a good friend, but I remember it very clearly. My teacher told me 'Happy birthday' because it was on Infinite Campus, and he gave me a stuffed monkey he had. I don't really know why he had one, but I still keep it around my belt loop sometimes. Summary: We worked on masks today and did vocab. Reflection: I dislike presenting and the final project.

Prompt: After watching the short film Identity, write a blog post reflecting on how the masks in the film represent the pressure to fit in and the struggle to discover who you really are. Choose one moment from the film that stood out to you and explain why. Then, connect the film’s message to Langston Hughes’ poem “I, Too” and to the mask you are creating in class. What part of your identity do you want your mask to reveal?

Prompt Response: I found the scene where she fell on the bathroom floor to be well shot, and it reminded me of in the film adaptation of the movie when it held on one boy's face. I found that the design of my mask and the girls' mask are similar, while I cannot find a direct relationship to the contents. Summary: We continued to work on the mask and watched a short film.  Reflection: I enjoyed drawing the mask.

Prompt: In “I, Too,” the speaker expresses pride in his identity and his rightful place in America. Reflect on your own life: What aspect of your cultural identity are you most proud of, and why?

I don't have any pride in my culture, and I express neutrality towards my culture due to the complete lackof cultural identity I have is simply the most common and generic. I have no heart in the traditions I participate in. Summary: We reviewed I, Too and worked on a mask. Reflection: I enjoyed the drawing activity and had fun.

Prompt: In “We Real Cool,” the speakers make choices that seem exciting, bold, and rebellious, even though those choices lead to consequences. Write about a moment in your own life when you followed what looked cool or fun, only to realize afterwards that it wasn’t the smart or responsible path. What influenced your decision, and how did your perspective change later?/

Prompt: One time, when I was walking with my family and we needed to cross the street. I insisted that we go to the crossing, but unfortunately, in my biggest moment of weakness, I jaywalked. I deeply regret this action sometimes; I even wake up in a cold sweat from having a nightmare about that day. It was reckless and horribly stupid. Summary: We worked on a poem called "We Real Cool" and made a graph relating to it. Reflection: I enjoyed the open conversation topics and had a good time with the graph.

Prompt: Discuss something meaningful or memorable you experienced over the break, or reflect on what you felt most thankful for during that time.

Prompt Response: I went up to North Carolina to help my family, and I'm thankful for the opportunity to work an honest job and make some money. I am also happy to be able to see my grandfather one last time, as this will likely be my last holiday celebrated with him. Summary: We did our vocabulary work, and Mr Reese set dates for all important upcoming events.  Reflection: I usually don't enjoy vocabulary that trend continued through this week.
